Yulong River bamboo rafting, walking routes & a Yangshuo day plan

For a first Yulong River day, choose a short Shuiedi raft to Gongnong Bridge or walk the Jima riverside trail, then take lunch nearby. If rafting is your main interest, Jima offers a longer ride through more of the valley. Book the named start and finish, carry your original passport and arrange the return car before setting off. You can enjoy the countryside fully without renting a scooter.

Which Yulong River raft route should you book?

Choose Shuiedi to Zonghe for a shorter first ride, or Jima to Zonghe if you want the raft to be the main morning activity. Both finish beside Gongnong Bridge (工农桥). Xiatang to Jima ends farther upstream and suits a day continuing onto Jima’s walking trail. Jinlong Bridge to Jiuxian is a separate upper-valley outing: its Jiuxian Zonghe endpoint is a different pier from Zonghe beside Gongnong Bridge. The operator’s route list publishes the pier names and fares below.

These are small bamboo-raft outings on the Yulong River, separate from the full Li River cruise. The table’s prices are per two-person raft, not per person. Riding times are approximate allowances supported by trip reports, excluding check-in and queues; water levels and dispatch affect the actual ride.

Operator-published route fares reviewed October 23, 2026. All four routes are one way.

How to book with a foreign passport

First choose the route and day, then ask the hotel to confirm availability for foreign-passport passengers. Give the passenger names as printed in the passports and the document details through the provider’s booking channel. Have the provider return a confirmation naming the route, travel date, passenger count, total fare and check-in instructions. Carry the original passports to the pier.

Some online booking forms accept passports, while others still present only a Chinese ID field. If your form has no passport document option, ask the hotel to arrange the correct channel or confirm purchase at the staffed pier ticket office. A counter visit still depends on available tickets, so book ahead for weekends and holidays rather than assuming you can buy the next raft on arrival.

At the booked starting pier, show the confirmation and passports to the ticket or check-in staff, collect any required boarding or queue number and follow the assigned boarding procedure. A reserved time does not remove the queue. The operator website’s ‘reserve a raftman’ feature is not itself proof of a paid passenger ticket. If you need help resolving a booking, the operator publishes the visitor hotline 0773-6777388.

Children, solo travelers and what the fare includes

The standard routes in the table use two-person rafts. A solo traveler should ask whether another passenger can be paired or whether the whole raft must be purchased. For an odd-numbered group, have the provider confirm the arrangement and total price before paying. The raft fare does not include a hotel transfer or automatic transport back to the starting pier.

Children’s height limits, age limits and passenger weight rules depend on the specific raft product. The operator lists other return routes and larger-seat products as well as the two-seat routes above; do not assume that the same eligibility applies to all of them. Send each child’s age and height and ask the provider to confirm the exact route in writing. If the group cannot ride together, the Jima walk below is a straightforward shared alternative.

Leave suitcases at the hotel. Carry a small bag, a phone protected from splashes and footwear with grip; crossing the low weirs can get feet wet. Wear the supplied life jacket and follow the raftman’s instructions. Neither bicycles nor rental scooters solve the return journey for a one-way raft, since they remain where you left them ashore.

A complete morning plan: Shuiedi raft and Gongnong Bridge

Ask for a car from the hotel to Shuiedi pier (水厄底码头), aiming to arrive around 09:00 if that fits the issued booking. From Yangshuo town, allow roughly 20–30 minutes by road in ordinary traffic, then the provider’s check-in time and the queue. After the short raft, disembark at Zonghe pier beside Gongnong Bridge. Give the driver that exact finishing point rather than asking them to wait at Shuiedi.

Take a short look at the river from the public bridge-side area, then have the car take you to a booked lunch near your lower-river hotel or back to town. Leave the afternoon for a village stroll, a café or the hotel. A roughly 09:00–13:00 block is a comfortable starting plan for the ride, transfers and lunch, with additional margin on busy days. For the longer Jima ride, start earlier or move lunch later; do not add a tight railway departure afterward.

A five-kilometer Yulong River walk from Jima

The operator describes a Jima riverside trail from Jima pier (骥马码头) to the Yulong Yinxiang Reception Centre (印象接待中心), about five kilometers. Follow the signed riverside path through the stops listed below. Allow two to three hours for an unhurried one-way walk with photographs and rests.

Book a car to Jima and arrange collection at the reception center using the operator’s trail endpoint and a hotel-confirmed map pin. This reception center is on the Yulong trail; it is not the Impression Liu Sanjie performance venue in Yangshuo town. Have lunch after collection, or confirm a café along the intended route before relying on it. Public walking does not require a raft ticket; individual attractions or businesses beside the trail have their own charges.

For a shorter outing, start at Jima, follow the river toward the waterwheel area and turn back when the group has walked enough. Set a 30–45 minute outward limit and return along the same path, with the car collecting at Jima. This gives families and non-cyclists a clear finish without committing to the full five kilometers. Keep to public paths rather than the narrow edges between planted fields.

Cycling, or the same countryside day without riding

If you want to cycle, use a return ride from a Jima-area rental point toward Chaoyang village and back, with a short public-path walk beside the river. Ask the rental provider to mark the current permitted roads and the return route before leaving; do not assume every riverside footpath allows bicycles. A return ride keeps the bicycle and your belongings at the same base and avoids combining a rental with a one-way raft.

You do not need a scooter to follow either recommended day above. A car to the pier or trailhead, time on foot and an arranged pickup cover the useful scenery with fewer decisions. For travelers with limited walking range, choose a hotel with accessible river views and use short car stops where a safe public stopping area exists. Confirm steps at any raft boarding point before committing to the water activity.

Rain alternatives and the journey back to your hotel

For light rain, shorten the Jima walk to an out-and-back section and keep lunch indoors nearby. If river operations stop but the paths remain open and conditions are comfortable, use the walking plan instead. During heavy rain, flooding or a local closure, spend the time at the hotel or in town and move the countryside outing to another day. Do not cross a submerged weir to reach a photo spot.

Save the agreed collection point before starting, and contact the driver while you still have a clear meeting place and phone signal. A countryside hotel can be closer to one route than another; use the accommodation guide to choose the right village. If leaving the region the same day, arrange luggage collection and the station or airport transfer before booking the raft, so the water activity has a realistic finishing time.

Reviewed October 23, 2026. Route endpoints, published raft prices and the Jima walking trail were checked against the operator. Ride and road durations are planning estimates. A universal current passport checkout flow and route-specific family limits could not be verified; the booking section gives a staffed fallback.
