Three days in Chengdu: pandas, tea & neighborhood time
This plan gives the Panda Base a dedicated outing and keeps the other days focused on smaller city areas. Arrange the order around your confirmed reservation, arrival point and the forecast. It assumes three full sightseeing days; a late flight arrival and an early train departure should not be counted as complete days just because they appear as separate dates on the calendar.

4 min readBefore Day 1 · Settle the important logistics
Reserve the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding for the session you want, using the full name rather than a generic panda search. Save the booking, original-ID requirement and chosen entrance. Decide how you will reach that entrance from your hotel, including any final car or bus segment after the metro.
Keep your first evening simple if you arrive late. Check whether your flight lands at Tianfu or Shuangliu and choose a meal near the hotel. Preparing the next morning’s transfer and charging the phone is more useful than adding a sightseeing stop that leaves you tired before the visit begins.
- Save the exact panda venue, session and entrance.
- Keep the original booking document and confirmation ready.
- Separate airport or station travel from your sightseeing blocks.
Day 1 · A panda visit, then a lighter afternoon
Use the morning for the booked Base visit if that is your confirmed session. Entry, walking between enclosures and finding a place to pause take time, so do not schedule another major attraction immediately afterward. Animals follow their own routines; a particular feeding moment or panda pose cannot be guaranteed by an itinerary.
After returning toward the city, have lunch and a rest before choosing a short local outing. The Chunxi Road (春熙路) area is one possible easy afternoon if it fits your hotel. Make the first day’s success a comfortable visit and a relaxed dinner, rather than a count of how many attractions you entered.
Day 2 · People’s Park and one set of lanes
Start with People’s Park and give a teahouse stop real time. Heming Teahouse (鹤鸣茶社) is a named option inside the park; check the current menu and seat arrangement before ordering. A shaded walk, tea and watching public park life can fill a useful morning without requiring another paid attraction.
After lunch, make Kuanzhai Xiangzi (宽窄巷子) a separate walking anchor. Check the route from your actual park exit, and use transport if you prefer a shorter walk. Browse the public lanes and choose a shop or small interior only if it interests you. This commercial visitor area has a different atmosphere from an ordinary residential street.
Day 3 · Choose a cultural focus instead of another checklist
Choose one main cultural visit, such as Wuhou Shrine (武侯祠), or a neighborhood around Wenshu Monastery (文殊院), depending on your interests. Check the specific venue’s entry rules and current hours before going. A monastery, historic shrine, adjacent shopping lane and museum are different experiences, not one shared ticket.
If you choose Wuhou Shrine, you can consider nearby Jinli (锦里) afterward as a separate public-street stop. If you choose Wenshu, keep lunch and a short neighborhood loop nearby. Staying in one area gives you time to notice details and take breaks rather than losing the afternoon to another cross-city connection.
Spread food discoveries across the stay
Use one meal for noodles or wontons, another for a broader Sichuan menu, and choose hotpot when you have time to sit. You do not have to make every meal a maximum-spice challenge. Tell staff your preferences before the food is prepared and ask about meat, broth and sauces if ingredients matter.
For an evening performance, check the exact venue, start time, language and ticket inclusions separately. Do not book it so tightly after dinner that a restaurant queue threatens the whole evening. A nearby meal and an open finish are a perfectly reasonable alternative when the day has already felt full.
How to shorten or extend the plan
With two days, keep the panda outing and a parks-and-neighborhoods day. Choose one cultural extra rather than compressing the entire third day. If you have a fourth day, a longer excursion should have its own transport and booking plan; do not append a distant destination to a short city afternoon.
On departure day, choose a small meal or walk near your base, then allow time for luggage collection and the actual station or airport. Check the airport code again before leaving. Carrying an ambitious sightseeing plan into a fixed departure is usually less enjoyable than ending the stay with a comfortable breakfast.
