Two days in Guangzhou: old streets & the Pearl River
This route gives the older city and the modern riverside their own space. Make meals part of the itinerary rather than squeezing them between attractions. The suggested order is flexible: rearrange your outdoor time for the forecast and any museum reservations you choose to make.

3 min readDay 1 · Morning tea and Xiguan
Begin with a morning-tea meal in the district you plan to explore. Order a modest first round of dim sum, enjoy the tea and leave time to sit. Starting hungry is more useful than scheduling a restaurant only after a long walk and a queue for another sight.
Make Yongqing Fang (永庆坊) in the Xiguan area your next anchor. Explore the public lanes and notice the relationship between older buildings and newer businesses. If you want a museum or performance as part of the visit, check its current program and ticket separately from the neighborhood walk.
Day 1 · Make Shamian a separate walking stop
Travel to Shamian (沙面) for an afternoon of tree-lined streets and architecture. It is a different area from Yongqing Fang, so check a current route rather than assuming a direct pedestrian shortcut. Use one clear arrival point and plan a comfortable loop with a place to sit.
You can appreciate many façades from public streets without entering buildings. Take a break and decide whether to add a nearby riverside segment before dinner. Keep the evening near an area you have already enjoyed instead of appending another cross-city transfer.
Day 2 · One indoor visit and a skyline afternoon
Choose one museum or indoor attraction that matches your interests, then confirm the exact venue and booking rules. The Chen Clan Academy (陈家祠) and sites around the newer Tianhe district offer different experiences; choose deliberately instead of trying to fit every famous name into one morning.
Later, make Zhujiang New Town (珠江新城) or the Canton Tower area (广州塔) your skyline anchor. They are on different sides of the Pearl River. Choose a viewpoint or a specific tower ticket if you want one, and budget the crossing and entry time accordingly.
- Reserve any indoor visit before setting a fixed morning timetable.
- Choose one side of the river as your main afternoon base.
- Check cruise or observation-deck terms separately if you add a paid experience.
Adapt for one day, a business trip or departure
With one full day, pair morning tea with one older neighborhood and a river view. If food is your priority, use extra time for another meal rather than a second tower visit. For a work trip, build one small outing around the district where your meetings actually take place.
On departure day, check which railway station or airport terminal your booking uses and allow time to collect luggage. Guangzhou South is not the same as the downtown station. A short meal near the hotel is easier to fit than another distant, timed attraction.
